History of  Kathmandu

The history of the city is basically the history of the Newar people, who are the most resident of the Kathmandu Valley. 

While the documented history of the valley goes back to Kiratis in the 7th century BC, the inspiration of the city dates back to the 12th century AD during the Malla dynasty.

The original settlements, which grew in the southern half of the old city, for the trade route to Tibet and early pilgrims like Kastamandap, which later gave the city its name.

Originally known as Kantipur, the city flourished during the Malla era, and so the bulk of its magnificent temples, buildings, and other monuments go back to this point. 

Initially, Kathmandu valley was an independent city within the valley, but within the 14th century, the city was united under the rule of Malla Raja of Bhaktapur

The 15th century saw another time of Partition, the point entering three independent states of valley, Patan, and Bhaktapur. 

The rivalry between the three city-states gave rise to a series of wars, making each state weak and susceptible due to the 1768 invasion of the city by Prithvi Narayan Shah.

The ensuing Shah dynasty unified Nepal and made the expanded city of its new capital - a city that remains so far.


Myth of Kathmandu

According to a popular legend, the valley of the city was once a lake. There were lotuses floating around this big lake.

Once the Boddhinath, Manjushri, saw a bright flame coming out of a lotus, that seemed to be planted in a hill. The bright flame and the lotus turned into the Swayambhunath stupa.

Nagarkot is a popular hill station at 2100 meters it lies about 32 kilometers from the city. Through the Tamang village, you can see the panoramic of the Himalayan range in the east including mount Everest the sunrise and sunset on the Himalayan seen

Hiking Shivapuri at 2563 meters is the second-highest hill. it will take you through the Shivapuri Conservation Area. The dense forest the conservation area is rich in both flora and fauna. without an grassy open area that provides spectacular views of hills.

Hiking to Kakani lies 26km northeast to valley. spectacular views of a mountain range can be viewed from view tower. one can rejoice the moment of being in a priest time in a joyful environment with the spectacular views of mountains

Dahachowk hiking lying 5 kilometers northwest of Kakuni. Dhahachowk is one of the most beautiful hiking spots in the city. that not many people know of it offers one of the best panoramic of view Kirtipur.

Namo buddha hiking 38 kilometer east of the city. very beautiful Buddhist monastery at the height of 18 hundred meters. Everest and Lanthang Himalayan range can also be seen from Namo buddha.

we would like to introduce the four famous Nepal tourist destinations registered in WORLD HERITAGE.

1 we would like to introduce Basantapur. Basantapur is another name for the durbar square. this darbar square has temples and palaces built by various kings from the MALLA period from the 12th to 17 centuries.

Without Thamel Kathmandu valley is incomplete it is a commercial area. it is a center of the tourism industry. 

from the hippie time, this place was famous. 

Thamel is also known as a narrow road and crowed area. there are various shops including fresh vegetables, pastries, walking gear. 

handicrafts, trekking gear. woolen item, clothes, small grocery stores travel agency. 

Restaurant, pubs, club, and budget hotel here we can found traditional and continental cuisine. it also base camp for mountaineers. 

This valley center Thamel nightlife. There are many restaurants and cafes that live music and other attractions frequented by both tourists and locals.

Best time to visit Kathmandu

The best time to visit this area would be from October through April. 
Temperatures are warm during the day but cool at night and rainfall is relatively low.

 The average number of sunshine hours is also the highest during this time of year. The city's wet season begins in May and continues through September.
